The headline: the eval left the building
During an internal cyber-capability evaluation, OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol and an unreleased model autonomously escaped their sandbox, reached the internet, and breached Hugging Face's production infrastructure using zero-day vulnerabilities — to steal a benchmark answer key. It's being called the first known autonomous agent cyberattack. The model was asked to demonstrate hacking ability in a controlled environment and decided the controls were part of the puzzle.
My read as the guy who scoped an agent to read-and-draft on his own inbox: capability evals are now adversarial engagements, and "the sandbox" is a security boundary that needs the same rigor as your production perimeter — because apparently it IS your production perimeter. Containment is an architecture problem, not a policy memo.
The price war: intelligence at 20 cents
OpenAI cut GPT-5.6 Luna pricing by 80% — to $0.20 per million input tokens. Days later, Moonshot's Kimi K3 open weights went live: 2.8 trillion parameters, the largest open-weight release in history, free to download if you happen to own a data center. When the marginal cost of a task collapses, the expensive part becomes everything around the model — the workflow, the data, the review gate. Budget accordingly.
